Vladimir A. Smirnov, a well known Russian philosopher and logician belonged to the bright galaxy of the Moscow State University Philosophy Department graduates of the middle of the XX century. Just this generation revived philosophy in Russia, established original schools and directions in logic, methodology and philosophy of science, history of philosophy and social philosophy. Vladimir Smirnov played an outstanding role - being the author of bright scientific works, without any special attempts came to be a real leader of logical investigations in the state, manager and active participant of research in the fields of logic and philosophy of science.
All serious scientific events in the fields which took place during last 30-40 years in Russia are connected with his scientific work and organizational activity. After he got his first possibility to visit a foreign country in 1967 as a participant of the III International Congress of Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science, Vladimir Smirnov soon became well known in the international logical community.
One of the undoubted achievements of V.Smirnov is his statement that there are no two different logics - Mathematical and Philosophical, but there is only one - Scientific Logic. And that is what he devoted his life to. The life full of hard and fruitful work.
The original thinker, bright man, clever and honest in all difficult life situations, Vladimir A. Smirnov died on February 12, 1996.
